Developing amazing spaces

A major talent in real estate development and investment and hotel operation, Chris Stewart Group’s expertise is in transformational urban projects with a focus on regeneration and redevelopment and a particular interest in complex, listed buildings. The Group embraces opportunity with a passion for innovation, but will also apply a keen understanding for market and location. Founded more than 20 years ago by CEO and majority shareholder Chris Stewart, the company’s credentials were firmly established in the early 2000s, when a number of deals helped spark the regeneration of Edinburgh city centre’s east end. Over the years that have followed, the strength and reputation of the company have grown, along with its portfolio of assets. This growth has been reflected in the appointment of an in house design team, development and construction team, development and acquisitions, asset management and corporate finance, as well as a series of operational appointments including operations director, F&B director and directors of sales and revenue.

Chris Stewart Group is also responsible for almost 200 members of staff across its operational assets, including The Edinburgh GrandOld Town Chambers, Abbey Strand Apartments and Courtyard by Marriott Edinburgh.

Chris Stewart Group has attracted a wide range of prestigious Scottish, UK and International awards for quality, design innovation and expertise as well as a number of individual awards for founder and CEO Chris Stewart.

In November 2014, Advocate’s Close earned the title of Scotland’s Best Building, receiving the RIAS Andrew Doolan Award, recognised as Scotland’s highest award for architecture. A month later, the same development won an International Property Award as the World’s Best for Commercial Redevelopment as well as being named RICS Commercial Project of the Year.

In early 2018 CSG’s regeneration and refurbishment of 12 Blenheim Place – formerly known as Blenheim House and now renamed to Greenside – was recognised at the BCO Awards for Scotland, winning in the Recycled/Refurbished Workplace category. This building has also been recognised in the Edinburgh Architectural Association Awards, the Scottish Design Awards and the EG (Estates Gazette) Awards in the Creative Space category.

CSG’s operational properties have also won a multitude of awards over recent years, with the Courtyard by Marriott being Highly Commended in the Commercial Development of the Year category at the 2018 Scottish Property Awards, and Old Town Chambers being named Style Hotel of the Year at the Scottish Hotel Awards 2018.

In testament to his depth of skill, knowledge and vision, Chris Stewart, CEO of Chris Stewart Group, won the building a better working world category at the EY Entrepreneur of the Year Scotland Awards 2018 in June of this year. This award acknowledges an entrepreneur who is delivering positive social impact whilst maintaining a strong sense of personal purpose and making a strong philanthropic contribution to their community.
