Chris Stewart Group (CSG) has has pre-let the office space at 20 West Register Street (also known as The Mint Building), part of our £85 million regeneration project at The Registers in Edinburgh’s city centre, to Baillie Gifford.

The independent global investment manager will take over all 60,000 sq ft of Grade A office accommodation. Extending over the ground floor entrance, seven upper floors and including fifth and sixth floor terraces, 20 West Register Street can accommodate 700 members of staff once completed in early 2019.

Designed by the award-winning Hoskins Architects, the building blends a modern sandstone and glass finish with an existing historic stone façade and sits on the south east corner of St Andrew Square.

It was announced in June 2018 that the entire building was acquired by Hines, the international real estate firm, in a forward purchase agreement, on behalf of its European Core Fund.

The Registers development, which includes 20 West Register Street, also includes The Edinburgh Grand, a neo-classical property that has been restored to create 50 luxury apartments in a hotel setting, as well as plans for significant investment in the public realm around West Register Street.

Chris Stewart, CEO, said:

“The agreement with Baillie Gifford is very positive news for Edinburgh and for the continued transformation of St Andrew Square and the east end of the city centre.

“20 West Register Street will be a stunning focal point on the south east corner of St Andrew Square and alongside The Edinburgh Grand will draw people through to the new Edinburgh St James. The elegance of the Hoskins design cleverly reflects the surrounding historic buildings, bringing these into view as you walk through The Registers. It is tremendous to see the development take shape.”

Alan Paterson, Partner at Baillie Gifford, added:

“This high-quality office is well located in Edinburgh city centre’s flourishing east end, in close proximity to our headquarters at Calton Square. It offers us flexible space as we plan for the long-term expansion of our client base, and will be an attractive working location for our staff.”
