Courtyard Marriott launches in Edinburgh
Chris Stewart Group’s latest development, the 240 bedroom Courtyard Marriott hotel on Baxter’s Place in Edinburgh’s city centre opened its doors in late December 2016, and celebrated with a launch party a few weeks later. Staff and guests enjoyed cocktails from The Lantern Room (the hotel’s bar and brasserie), beers from local microbrewery Barney’s Beers and soft drinks from Fentimans, as well as canapes designed and created by The Lantern Room’s head chef.
Following a £30 million investment in the refurbishment of an historic Georgian terrace and a new extension to the rear, the UK’s third Courtyard Marriott welcomed its first guests in December 2016. This latest hotel in Chris Stewart Group’s portfolio is one of the largest in Edinburgh, with 240 bedrooms, as well as brasserie, bar and private dining areas, and meeting/business and gym facilities. The accommodation is primarily based in a modern extension to the rear of the Georgian terrace, but with a number of rooms also located on the upper floors of the townhouses.
The townhouses were once home to eminent lighthouse engineer Robert Stevenson and his family, and these historic connections have influenced the interior design of both the public and private areas. A bust of Robert Stevenson can be found in the reception area, whilst historic drawings and specifications have been framed and hung in the bedrooms. Family photographs and images of Stevenson’s lighthouses decorate The Lantern Room and other public areas, and much of the reading material available in the snug has a Stevenson or lighthouse influence.
